Since 1985, Pathways.org has used evidence-based practice and multimedia as tools to promote each child’s fullest inclusion. We strive to empower health professionals and parents with knowledge of the benefit of early detection and early intervention for children’s sensory, motor, and communication development.

Tongue / Lip Tie

Tongue-tie: Embryological remnant of tissue in the midline between the undersurface of the tongue and the floor of the mouth (lingual frenulum) that restricts normal tongue movement.

International Affiliation of Tongue-Tie Professionals (IATP)

Though not all cases of tongue-tie will cause medical issues, current research estimates that 30% of individuals with tongue-tie will suffer from effects of the condition.

In these affected individuals, tongue-tie can cause breastfeeding problems such as inadequate milk-transfer 9which causes failure-to-thrive), maternal pain, and premature weaning.

There is ongoing research to additional effects of tongue-tie. It is believed to be associated with speech articulation issues, indigestion, reflux, dental problems, GERD, headaches, TMJ disorder, and sleep apnea.Tongue Tie Education is a website run by the Advocates for Tongue-Tie Education. This organization provides information, education, and advocacy for issues related to tongue-tie.

Resources for Providers

The Provider Toolkit provided by Advocates for Tongue-Tie Education is a compilation of forms and information used by dentists/physicians who perform frenotomies and/or frenectomies. This information is for professionals who are taking steps to learn about providing these services.

Because the ATTE respects the providers who have donated these materials, they will only release the password to professionals whose credentials would allow frenotomies/ frenectomies. Other credentials will be considered on a case by case basis if one can demonstrate they work closely with a provider (dentist/physician) who is currently practicing these procedures accordingly.

The application form to access provider material can be found on the ATTE web site, under Providers

Recommended Local Providers

We have a list of recommended local pediatric Oral Revision Practitioners on our Pediatric Providers page.

Complimentary & Integrative Pediatric Therapeutic Interventions

This project is dedicated to the members of IATP, IBCLC’s the world over and other Allied Health Professionals in their support of breastfeeding. The following excerpts include listed sites, and represent a basic overview of each complimentary therapeutic application process. This is not an exhaustive list but represents a cursory view of those processes that exist to this author’s knowledge for the benefit of wellness promotion at all levels of human growth, development and healing, specifically mind, body and spirit. These modalities are a compilation of my research and that of many other practitioners, without whom my world would be very small and to whom I express my gratitude here.
